Starting off: Concealer

I'd just like to start this off by saying I pretty much know nothing of different types of concealer - it's never really been my main concern when it comes to beauty and make-up stuff. The products that I use or have used in the past, have either been gifts or the cheapest things at the drugstore.

So in this week's post, I'm just going to tell you what I know about concealer and a little advice.

  • Concealer is used to cover up any dark eyes, spots, redness and basically any imperfections. For this reason I think it's very important to buy a concealer with good coverage. Otherwise it's kind of pointless.
  • The next thing is to always buy concealer a shade or two lighter than your skin tone and foundation shade. This is because concealer is supposed to brighten and cover, so having it darker will just make the situation worse.
  • Dark circles under your eyes should be covered with a yellow based concealer to cancel out the blue.
  • Red spots and other reddish imperfections should be covered with a green based concealer to cancel out the red.
  • I personally find it more effective to dab concealer in using my finger rather than rubbing it in. I find that when rubbing it, the concealer just spreads out and doesn't provide enough coverage.
  • I've heard a lot of hype about the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection concealer, which is a liquid rather than a stick. If you're buying concealer for the first time I'd go for this - it's super cheap at only around £4 and is definitely going to be my next purchase when I go shopping tomorrow!
  • In my opinion, you don't really need any make-up tools for concealer, especially if you're just starting out. I've always used my fingers and been just fine.

My Concealer Products

I sincerely apologise for my super shiny forehead. I'm not wearing any foundation or powder :( Also my under eyes look particularly bright in this because flash was on.
I'm also wearing Rimmel eyebrow pencil in 002 and Barry M lipstick in 54.

I'm currently using the W7 Cover Stick with Tea Tree Oil and the Calvin Klein Endless Light concealer pen. Even though I can't really think of any specific benefits of a cover stick, I wouldn't want to not own one. I think because I've always used a stick I'd be lost without one.
I must have bought the W7 cover stick at some weird location, because I just looked online and neither Boots nor Superdrug sell it.
As for the concealer pen, I really love this because it actually does brighten my eyes. However this was a gift, not one of my own cheap purchases, so I don't know how it compares to drugstore alternatives.
